In this treadmill review, we’ll drill deeper into the key features of the NordicTrack Commercial X22i treadmill, plus outline its specs, and major pros and cons.
We’ll wrap this treadmill review up with FAQs and our recommendation on whether or not this NordicTrack Incline Trainer is right for you.
Key Features
Industry Leading Incline Range
One of our favorite features about the X22i treadmill is the incredible range of incline decline. With 0 – 6% decline and 0 – 40% incline, you can push yourself as hard, or as little as you like. Most treadmills come with a 10 or 12% max incline, so the X22i easily blows its competitors out of the water when it comes to the range of incline.
4.0 CHP DurX Commercial Plus Motor
One of the main differences between commercial treadmills and residential treadmills is the size of the motor.
Whereas residential models come with motors as small as 2.00 CHP motor, the Commercial X22i treadmill is loaded with a rock-solid 4.00CHP DurX Commercial Plus Motor.
The 4.0 CHP ensures the X22i never struggles even at its limit of 12 mph on a 40% incline. You will be able to push yourself as hard as you want and the DurX motor will stand up to the challenge.
Even though it has a powerful motor, this incline treadmill is still incredibly smooth. NordicTrack has improved the smoothness of their treadmills in the last few years, focusing on reducing the belt’s vibration. The X22i is one of their smoothest machines yet.
Next-Gen Sled Push
Using the all-new push bar and sled grips, and by setting the speed of the X22i to 1 MPH, you’ll be taking advantage of the awesome Next-Gen Sled Push which will give you a super-intense workout. The Next-Gen Sled Push is great for cardio, strength training and conditioning.
Heart Rate Monitor
Use the smart chest strap heart monitor that comes included with the NordicTrack X22i treadmill to monitor your heart rate as you run.
The heart monitor connects to the treadmill through BlueTooth, so you won’t have to worry about getting tangled in any cables.
Monitoring the data from the chest monitor gives you the power to maximize your workouts by tailoring the speed and incline settings to match your heart rate.
If you want to work, then increase the settings and watch your heart rate increase. If you’re ready to cool down, lower them and watch your rate fall.
Reflex Cushioning
Running for long periods of time on hard surfaces can lead to injuries, especially in your knees and lower back. When you’re buying a treadmill, it’s important to see what it offers as protection against potential injuries. This treadmill has proprietary Reflex Cushioning Technology to keep its customers comfortable and safe by absorbing the motion and impact without sacrificing durability, helping you run longer and stronger.
This cushioning technology is designed to absorb each step while also being firm enough to help runners push off from.
22” Interactive Coaching HD Touch Screen
The 22” interactive HD touch screen is another upgraded feature from the Nordictrack x11i, and it’s one of the best features of the X22i treadmill.
Compared to LCD-screens in some competitors’ treadmills, the HD 22 inch touchscreen makes the X22i feel right at home in 2020 with all the streaming possibilities at your fingertips. On the 22” HD screen, runners can stream on-demand studio sessions led by world-class coaches. All you have to do is run while the trainers take control of your X22i’s incline and speed in real-time, pushing you to the next level.
You can also access Google Maps through the X22i’s HD screen. Again, the coach takes control of the treadmill’s incline and speed while you get to run through some of the best scenery in the world. It’s a great way to take your mind off running.
Lastly, the HD screen offers runners access to real-time workout data on tracking pages. There, you can access your stats on heart rate, elevation, and intensity, enabling you to customize your workouts and maximize the benefits you get from running.
Bluetooth Audio Capabilities
Pump up the beats with the NordicTrack X22i‘s integrated sound system. Stream your favorite music straight from your device using the X22i’s Bluetooth capabilities and turn up the volume on the dual 3” integrated speakers.
One of the best things about the Bluetooth and speakers on the X22i is the fact that they eliminate the need for headphones, the cables of which can get in the way while you’re running.
In 2021, any self-respecting treadmill should offer wireless connectivity, and the X22i rests firmly in the present.
22” x 60” Commercial Tread Belt
The industry-standard belt gives runners plenty of room to maneuver and turn up the gears. The 22” x 60” belt is wide enough and long enough to give runners a sense of safety and stability, even when cranking out max. speed and incline.
Dual AutoBreeze Workout Fans
Two air fans built into the X22i’s console help runners stay cool while they work out. When you’re pushing the limit on a 40% incline at 10 mph, you’ll be loving the fact that NordicTrack takes their runners’ comfort into account while building their treadmills.
50 On-board Workout Programs
With 50 preprogrammed workouts, accessible through the 22” HD screen, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for in a workout with the X22i. This is a step up from the X11i range, and substantially more programs than most other treadmills come with.
With the ability to vary your workout, you are able to focus on different muscle groups in your legs, and you can also vary the goals of your sessions. Do you want to work on building strength and conditioning, stamina, or endurance? You can decide with the X22i which mode do you want.

5. How to assemble the NordicTrack X22i?
Assemble requires at least two people because some of the parts of the X22i are large and heavy.
First, clear an area and lay out all the parts of the X22i. Sometimes the parts are covered in an oily substance from the factory. Don’t worry about this, just wipe it off with a rag.
The treadmill comes with its own hex keys. In the user manual, you will find detailed instructions showing step by step how to set it up. First, attach the uprights, or arms, to the treadmill deck, then attach the console to the arms.

First, raise the incline to its maximum then turn off and unplug the machine. Take hold of the uprights, or arms, near the console and tip the machine forward until it’s on its roller wheels.
Now you should be able to push the treadmill to its desired location. Once in place, gently lower the deck to the floor, plug it back in and lower the incline.
